How to translate a conversation

In short: transcribe the conversation, tap "Translate" and pick a language. Translation is done offline on your phone and the original stays unchanged.

How to translate

  1. Open a transcribed recording.
  2. Tap "Translate" and choose a language in "Translate into".
  3. If the language pack is not there yet, the app says "Offline translation needs a language pack, downloaded once", shows the approximate size and offers "Download and translate".
  4. The translation appears under the original. You can switch it on or off: "Show translation under the original".
  5. You can copy it: "Copy translation".

If the language of the call cannot be detected you see "Could not detect the language of the call". If you pick the same language: "This is already the language of the call".

Language packs

Packs are managed in "Settings → Transcription languages", section "Translation": "Download (~N MB)" and "Delete (~N MB)". A pack is downloaded once and then works without internet. If you delete a pack, translations you already saved are kept.

Kazakh

Kazakh offline translation is still experimental. RecUmi uses several offline translation engines. Language availability depends on the installed language pack. Quality may be lower than for other languages: double-check anything important.

Privacy

Translation runs on your phone; the text of your conversation is not sent to a server.
