How transcription works

Transcription is a beta feature: text quality and timestamps are still improving — verify important parts against the audio.
In short: open a recording and tap "Transcribe". After a while the text of the conversation appears below the recording. By default, transcription runs on your phone. If only the system speech-recognition service is available for a language, the app asks for your consent first.

How to transcribe a recording

  1. Open the call in the log.
  2. In the "Call transcript" block, tap "Transcribe".
  3. If there is no engine for the language of the call yet, the app offers "Install language" (see "Transcription languages: how to install and delete").
  4. Wait for it to finish: progress is shown ("Transcribing... N%"). You can close the recording, transcription continues in the background.

What you can do with the text

  • Read the conversation and jump to the right place in the recording.
  • Search for words in the transcript (see "How to search inside a conversation").
  • Copy the text.
  • Translate it (see "How to translate a conversation").
  • Delete the transcript: the recording itself stays and you can transcribe it again.

Transcribing your own audio file (Import audio)

You can add your own audio file to the log — for example, a voice message or a conversation recorded in another app. Open the “⋮” menu in the log, choose “Import audio” and pick one or more files in the Android file picker.

  • The file is copied into the log as a personal recording, without re-encoding; no call is created and there is no phone number for it.
  • Playback, search, labels and notes, trimming and transcription work on it just like on any recording. Transcription works as described above.
  • The file stays on your phone only: the app does not send it anywhere by itself. If a file does not play, your phone does not support its format — try mp3, m4a, aac, wav, ogg or flac.

If it did not work

  • "The language is not installed" — install the language and try again.
  • "No speech was recognized in this recording" — the recording is silent or the speech is too quiet.
  • "This audio format could not be read" or "The recording file was not found" — the recording is damaged or was moved.
  • "Could not save the transcript" — check free space on the phone.

Transcription is not perfect: names, numbers and rare words may be recognized with mistakes. Check important details against the recording.

Protected recordings

While a recording is protected by PIN or biometrics, its transcript is hidden and is not included in search.

Privacy

By default, transcription runs on your phone. If only the system speech-recognition service is available for a language, the app asks for your consent first. Language models are downloaded once, and only when you tap to download.
