Transcription languages: how to install and delete

Transcription is a beta feature: text quality and timestamps are still improving — verify important parts against the audio.

In short: "Settings → Transcription languages". Install the languages you need once, and they work without internet.

Two kinds of languages

Built into the phone. The speech recognition language is already part of Android. Status "Ready (built into the phone)". It is free and takes no extra space in RecUmi.
RecUmi model. A small free model that RecUmi downloads to your phone. Status "RecUmi model installed (works offline)".

If a language is not built into your phone, RecUmi offers to download its own model. For some languages only the system option exists: "Only via Android, if your phone supports it". Then tap "Install" or "Manage in Android settings".

Which languages

Russian, Kazakh, English, Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese and Turkish. Indonesian is available only through Android, if your phone supports it.

How much space

A RecUmi model takes roughly 30–60 MB per language. The exact size is shown on the button: "Can be downloaded (N MB)".

How to install

Open "Settings → Transcription languages".
Tap "Download" next to the language and confirm.
If you are not on Wi‑Fi, the app asks whether to download over mobile data (the approximate size is shown) or "Wait for Wi‑Fi".

How to delete

Tap "Delete, frees N MB". The language stops working offline until you install it again. Transcripts that are already made are kept.

If it did not work

"Not enough space" — free up the amount shown. "Could not install. Try again." — check your internet and tap "Try again".

Privacy

Offline recognition models are free and open source. Only models are downloaded, not program code, and only when you tap "Download".
