Recording and playback

Text, search and translation
- Transcripts are created on the phone when you ask, without the cloud by default. The system's cloud recogniser is used only if you have separately allowed it for a specific language.
- Transcription is a beta feature: accuracy depends on recording quality, language and device; check important passages against the audio.
- Search by name, number, note, label and the words spoken in the conversation.
- On-device translation of the text; each language pack is downloaded once. Quality depends on the language pair. Translation is powered by Google Translate technology (ML Kit).

Getting startedInstallation and permissions
RecUmi Calls is installed from an installation file on our download page. It takes a few minutes.

Which permissions and why
- Microphone and phone state: to record calls and notes and to know when a call started and ended. While recording, Android shows an icon and a notification.
- Call log and contacts: so the list shows the number, the name and the direction of the call. They are read only on the phone. Without them the app works, but a call will show as "Unknown number".
- Notifications: so that a recording card appears after the call.
- Accessibility service and notification access: you turn them on yourself in Android settings; the app explains why.
You decide
On every screen there is "Allow" or "Not now". Permissions can be changed in the phone settings at any time, and the state of all permissions is visible on the "RecUmi Calls readiness" screen.

What was checked
Recording of cellular calls and WhatsApp calls was checked on a test build of RecUmi Calls, including on an OPPO A74 (Android 13, ColorOS). The result depends on the device and the Android version; the public version requires a separate check.
Telegram, Viber, MAX and WeChat calls are under review, and their operation is not guaranteed yet. The requirement is Android 9 or later.
A five-minute check
- Open "Settings → RecUmi Calls readiness": each item has the status "Done" or "Needed" and a button to grant the permission.
- When everything is ready, you will see "RecUmi Calls is ready to work".
- Make a test call of a few seconds and open the recording in the log.
- If the recording is quiet, try speakerphone during the test call.
Recording does not work on your phone? Write to support@recumi.com: the phone model, the Android version and which call you checked. A model is added to the list only after our own check.
StorageStorage, copies and deletion
Where recordings are kept
Recordings, texts, notes and tags are stored on your phone. The main functions work without the internet; no account is needed.
Automatic clean-up and compression free up space: favourites, recordings with a note and recordings with marks inside are not deleted.
Copies go only where you say
- A backup archive in a single file, made manually to a place you choose.
- A copy of new recordings to a folder you choose (recordings under a PIN are not copied there).
- Automatic copying of recordings to a user-configured FTP/FTPS server is temporarily unavailable in the current version of RecUmi Calls. More in the privacy policy, section 3.7.
Before changing your phone or deleting the app, save a backup archive: recordings are kept on the phone, not with us.

The Google Play version is being checked; Google Play has not approved it yet, and we do not name dates. It is a standalone app:
- It does not record calls and does not use the microphone or the call log.
- Listening to and searching your recordings, tags, notes, conversation text on the phone.
- Creating and restoring your own backups (.zip).
- A recording without a number is marked "Number not identified"; you can find it by date and time.
RecUmi Helper is a separate RecUmi app outside Google Play. The Google Play version does not need it and does not offer to install it.
Call context
What is known about the conversation and what happens next
A call recording is not a separate file: it is linked to the person you spoke with and to the whole history of your communication. Part of this is already available, part is planned. All of this is in the version from recumi.com. The Google Play version does not record calls or use the call log.

Your dataWhat happens to your recordings
- We do not receive your recordings, transcripts or translations.
- We don't sell your data or show ads. There is no account and no sign-in.
- Copies go only where you send them: a folder you choose (which may be in cloud storage). If you allow the system's cloud recogniser for a language, its provider processes the audio for transcription.
- In the current version, the app does not pass error reports or diagnostic data to the developer.

The Google Play version
A standalone app: listening to and searching your recordings, tags, notes, conversation text, your own backups; it does not record calls. Being tested on test phones; Google Play has not approved it yet. RecUmi Helper is a separate app outside Google Play.

We do not give dates: a status changes once the feature has been tested.
Questions and answersFrequently asked questions
- Does RecUmi Calls record both sides of a call? It depends on the phone model and Android version, and for messengers also on the app itself. Recording of mobile calls and WhatsApp calls was tested on a test build; recording both sides in WhatsApp is not guaranteed. Check with a test call.
- Do I need the internet? Not for recording and text by default: transcription runs on the phone. The internet is needed to download a language model or translation pack once, and for updates.
- Where are recordings stored? On your phone. We do not receive them. Copies go only where you send them yourself.
- Why not Google Play? Right now RecUmi Calls is distributed directly from recumi.com. This is the official channel: the app is signed with our key and updates itself. A Google Play version is in development.
- How do I check the file is genuine? Compare the SHA-256 checksum on the download page.
- Is my phone on the list? The list is on the Compatibility page. A model is added only after we have tested it. If recording does not work, write to support@recumi.com.
- Is it legal to record a call? It depends on the country: you may need to tell the other person or get their consent. The app is for users aged 18 and over.
- Are there ads or an account? No: no ads and no sign-in.
- How do I move recordings to a new phone? The app has a manual backup archive: save it while the recordings are still on the old phone.
