How to install RecUmi Calls
RecUmi Calls is installed from an installation file on our official download page. It takes a few minutes: download, allow the install, grant permissions and make a test call.
What the installation file is. It is a regular Android app file (APK format). Your phone will ask once whether to allow installing from the browser — this is normal for apps that do not come from a store.
Why not Google Play. The version of RecUmi Calls that records calls is distributed from our website. A separate RecUmi Calls app for Google Play is being prepared; it will appear there once it is published.
Download the installation file
Open the download page on your phone and tap “Download for Android”. Download RecUmi Calls only from there.
Verify the file (optional)
The SHA-256 checksum is on the download page, under “Check the file”. Compare it in a
file manager that checks hashes, or with sha256sum on a computer — the values must match exactly.
Allow the install
Open the downloaded file. Android asks whether apps may be installed from this source (your browser or file manager) — allow it and tap “Install”.
Grant permissions
Before asking for permissions, the app explains why the access is needed and what RecUmi does not do with it. You choose “Allow” or “Not now”.
Which access is needed and why
- Microphone and phone state — to record calls and know when a call starts and ends. While recording, Android shows an icon and a notification.
- Call log and contacts — to show the number, name and direction of each call. Without them the app works, but calls are shown as “Unknown number”.
- Notifications — so a card with the recording appears after a call.
- Accessibility service and notification access — you turn these on in Android settings; the app explains what each one is for. The accessibility service is needed only to notice that a call screen opened: it does not read screen content, text or passwords, taps nothing and sends nothing.
- Install updates — needed to install updates from within the app.
You can change permissions in your phone settings at any time. What is stored and where — in the privacy policy.
Check that recording works
- Open “Settings → RecUmi Calls readiness”. For any item marked “Needed”, tap the button next to it.
- When everything says “Done”, you will see “RecUmi Calls is ready to work”.
- Make a test call of a few seconds — the recording appears in the log after the call.
Updating
The app checks for updates itself and offers to install them. If recording stops after an update, open “RecUmi Calls readiness” again: permissions may have been reset.
Record conversations only where the law allows it; tell the other person when required.
