AvailableHow to compress old recordings
In short: "Settings → Advanced / Technical → Storage → Compress old recordings". Old recordings become smaller and space is freed. Compression runs only while the phone is charging.
What the button does
Old recordings take a lot of space. "Compress" turns them into compact files. Speech stays clear, but the sound becomes a little simpler, like the "Optimal" mode. You cannot get the old quality back afterwards.
When it runs
- Only while charging. If the phone is not charging, you will see "Started. Compression begins as soon as the phone is on the charger".
- While it runs on the charger, you can use the phone as usual.
- You can stop it with the "Stop" button.
How your recordings are protected
- First a compressed copy of the recording is created.
- The app checks that it opens and the sound is there.
- If auto-backup is on, the recording must already be in a confirmed backup.
- Only then is the old recording deleted. If any check fails, the original stays.
If something goes wrong you will see "Failed to compress… (originals kept)". Recordings that are not yet in a backup wait: "Compression will start once the recordings are included in a confirmed backup".
Example
If you have recorded calls with customers for years, the archive can take several gigabytes. Compression gives back part of that space without losing your history.
Tip
Set up a backup first, then tap "Compress".
